- The customer takes a jar of jam from the shelf.
- The item appears at the till; the cash payment is recorded separately from card payments.
- The sale is recorded in the daily journal.
- The product’s stock goes from 12 to 11.
- In an auto-parts shop: a reference gives the quantity in stock and the bin location.
